Avant Gardner Still Offers No Timeline on 2023 Electric Zoo’s Cancelation Refunds

3 months after a disastrous Electric Zoo festival, organizers are still unprepared to offer a deadline on refunds to attendees. 2023’s Electric Zoo festival was plagued after the cancellation of it’s first day. On that Sunday, festival organizers announced they had reached capacity by mid-afternoon, resulting in a stampede rushing the gates after some 7,000 ticket holders were denied entry. It’s an understatement to say the remaining 2 days of the festival were littered with problems, from reports of production malfunctions, and dangerously dense crowds, New York City had its very own Fyre Fest 2.0.

The festival released a brief statement Wednesday afternoon, following questions from Gothamist:

Electric Zoo will be issuing refunds to impacted ticket buyers and details will be communicated with them directly,
— Avant Gardner 11/29/23

This year was the first in which the Electric Zoo was entirely operated by Avant Gardner, since the company acquired the festival and its previous owners, Made Events, for $15 million in July of 2022. Since the event occurred, the festival has posted little on their social media accounts other than a link to their lost and find website. In addition, the festival is now facing at least 6 lawsuits, at least 4 of which relate directly to the Electric Zoo and seek a combined total of more than $100 million.

The most previous statement from the Electric Zoo was in September, over two months ago. They were still unprepared to offer specifics then, just as they still are today.

The Electric Zoo’s Statement from 9/13/23

It is currently unclear the fate of the festival, since its annual Black Friday sale did not occur this year, which is something loyal attendees look forward to habitually.

The Electric Zoo may have eroded both their perception in the public sphere, and a loyal fan base.
